Investigators in the St Catherine North police division have charged 23-year-old Junior Coleman with the murder of a man and the injury of several others at the wake for entertainer Christopher Martin's grandmother last week.

Coleman, who is also known as 'CJ' of Tredegar Park, St Catherine, is charged with the murder of 34-year-old labourer O'Neil Spencer of Back Pastures district.

Coleman is also charged with conspiracy to commit murder, using a firearm to commit a felony, facilitating a serious offence by a criminal organisation, shooting with intent, wounding with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.

The police allege that about 12:40 a.m. on August 21 the accused along with three other men armed with illegal guns went to Back Pasture.

They reportedly fired indiscriminately on persons gathered at a wake.

During the attack several persons were shot and injured.

Spencer, who was shot in the upper body and head, died from his injuries.

Coleman was picked up by the police and was charged following a question and answer session on Monday.

He reportedly gave a caution statement to the police.

A court date is being finalised for his appearance.
