The Bustamante Hospital for Children (BHC) is advising members of the public that elective surgeries have been cancelled due to a recent power surge.

In a media release on Friday, the BHC stated that only emergency procedures will be accommodated.

"In the meantime, we are implementing necessary measures to minimise the impact on patient care, including rescheduling non-emergency procedures, and, where appropriate, transferring urgent cases to nearby facilities," said the BHC.

"Patients and their families who have upcoming surgeries scheduled in the affected theatres will be contacted directly to provide updates and rescheduling options," BHC added.

The BHC and the South East Regional Health Authority have apologised for any inconvenience caused by the unexpected issue.
