Two men freed of robbery charges in the St Catherine Parish Court
Two men who were charged with the aggravated robbery of a woman in Portmore, St Catherine, last year were freed in the St Catherine Parish Court today.
They are 39-year-old Jhamani James and 27-year-old Kenneth Allen, both of Corporate Area addresses.
When the accused men appeared before Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle, the judge agreed with the submission that the crown could not mount a successful prosecution in the matter.
On April 29, 2024, attorneys-at-law Shelldon Campbell and Michael Campbell submitted that there was no video evidence, no identification parade and that a nexus could not be formed between the robbery and the men.
It was alleged before the court that in December 2023, two men robbed the complainant of a Honda Fit motor car in Braeton, Portmore, St Catherine.
A report was made to the St Catherine South Police and an investigation launched.
The police intercepted the motor car in New Kingston and Allen and James were reportedly inside.
They were arrested and taken to Portmore where they were subsequently charged with robbery with aggravation.
The men made numerous court appearances and maintained their innocence throughout.
