Strong crowd support at PNP annual conference

September 15, 2024

It is a party-like atmosphere inside the National Arena in St Andrew as comrades from all across Jamaica streams in droves for the 86th staging of the People's National Party annual conference.

While the music blast from the speaker, the atmosphere was periodically punctuated with sounds of vuvuzela and loud cheers as supporters march in rocking with their respective candidates and with marching bands and cheerleader in one instance.

The supporters are seemingly warming up for what promises to be an impressive staging of the party's last conference ahead of the upcoming polls.

While some supporters were spotted plying wares including party memorabilia, face rags, jewellery and marijuana, others were seen skanking with liquor in their cups while puffing on cigarettes and spliff.

Others were also seen trying their luck at a game of crown and anchor.

The supporters, however, are all united in their love for the party and their need for change in government.

Marcia Dunkley, 59, who travelled from St Elizabeth North East, said nothing could have stopped her from attending the conference.

"Mi always luv and support mi party. If a dog dem put up a dog mi a support. I'll support anything the party," she said.

Joseph Piggot,78, another party faithful, said he was out supporting the political organisation because of its care and support of the lower and middle class.

Furthermore, he said "The PNP's policies surpass the JLP's policies in everyday."

Another support from Manchester, Junior, when asked why he came out said, "Cause I love my party and we need better for the youths. They need proper education and healthcare.
