The St Mary police say speeding and reckless driving led to the deaths of a student of the Carron Hall High School and two others in a car crash in the parish on Sunday.

The police say about 3:00 a.m. the driver of a grey Honda Stream lost control of the vehicle along the White Hall main road and it collided with a beige Toyota Corolla that was travelling in the opposite direction.

Six persons were injured and taken to the Port Maria Hospital.

Among those that died were members of a family from Portland, who arrived in Jamaica from overseas to bury a relative from the Mount Pleasant area of the parish.

The names of the deceased have not yet been released by the police.

The St Mary police say Sunday's fatal crash was a result of speeding, reckless driving and indiscipline on the part of at least one of the drivers.

The Port Maria police are investigating the incident.
