A male driver is in custody following an ongoing investigation launched by The Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA), which saw the businessman in a viral video armed with a gun, physically assaulted a female motorist, who is a nurse, in what is believed to be a case of road rage.

In a media, the FLA said the probe is to determine if the man is licensed to carry a firearm.

"We are assuring the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted and the necessary actions, under the law, will be taken."

The FLA is reminding licensed firearm holders that brandishing a or using a firearm to intimidate or assault a person is a criminal offence.

The incident occurred along the main road in Mount Friendship on Tuesday night.

The encounter was captured on video, which is being circulated on social media platforms.

"He took her out [of the] car and him start manhandle her," a person with knowledge of the incident told The STAR, adding that the nurse was on her way to work.

An object, which appeared to be a firearm, was also in play and fell along the roadway.

In the video, onlookers can also be heard begging the man to stop.

Meanwhile, charges are pending against the St Andrew businessman, who remains in custody as a high-level probe is ongoing.

Divisional Commander for the St Andrew North Police Division, Acting Superintendent Randy Sweeney, told The Gleaner that he is to be questioned by investigators on Saturday.

"Following which, it is expected that several charges will be preferred against the accused," said Sweeney.

"It is a sensitive and emotional issue at this point, and as such, we are using this opportunity to reassure the public that we are conducting a thorough investigation into this matter and the chips will certainly fall where they may," he added.
