Palmer points to dropped catches
Jamaica Scorpions captain, Paul Palmer Jr, has blamed dropped catches for his team's loss to the Leeward Islands Hurricanes in the West Indies Cricket Board's First-Class League last weekend.
The Hurricanes, bottom of the six-team tournament with 28 points, defeated the Scorpions (56 points) by 85 runs at the Sir Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua.
"I wouldn't say it's a big loss," said Palmer Jr, shortly after the team's return yesterday.
"The team is in transition so it will never be easy to win games continuously. Likewise, all the teams playing in this competition are good teams with quality players. I think the Hurricanes played better on the day (weekend) than us. That is all."
The Scorpions skipper said they are fully aware of the reasons why they lost.
"We know what we did wrong," said Palmer Jr, whose wretched run of form continued in the match with scores of one and 15. "In the second innings, we dropped century maker Jahmar Hamilton (130) twice, in his 30s (off Nikita Miller), and while in his 40s (off Sheldon Cottrell), and we paid the price.
"The other guy, Monticin Hodge, who made 72, he was also dropped in the 40s. If we had taken those chances, more than likely they would not have got up to such a huge total. "
Scores: Hurricanes 155 and 368 for eight declared; Scorpions 158 and 280.
