MBU boss wants new kick-off time for RSPL final

Orville Powell, president and owner of Montego Bay United (MBU), has written to the Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA) expressing his dissatisfaction with a 4 p.m. start time for next Sunday’s Red Stripe Premier League final.
  “I have sent them a letter detailing our disgust at how they continue to treat this club,” Powell told STAR Sports.
    
“Immediately after our semi-final match, we heard of consultations surrounding the final being played in Montego Bay. Those consultations, we understood, included Portmore United officials, as well as league sponsors Red Stripe and Television Jamaica. MBU was not consulted,” he stated.

Biggest Football final

He said for consultations to be held without the knowledge or input of MBU officials around the subject of the biggest football final in the country, suggests that a conspiracy could be in the air.

“This sounds like a conspiracy, or are we not considered a stakeholder. We understand the venue change and only having discussion with Portmore, but what’s the thinking with the Sunday and time change,” Powell asked.

Powell believes that the scheduled start time will impact negatively on the game, which will be televised live on Television Jamaica (TVJ).

“How many supporters will come out at 4 p.m., either in the stifling afternoon heat or possible driving rain with children to see this game?
“We are asking for a review of the start time to this most important match. We believe that all parties will benefit greatly from an 8:40 p.m. kick-off or at  6 p.m.” Powell added.
