Williams sisterly love continues

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil:

She is not in Rio de Janeiro for the Olympic Games but world champion Danielle Williams certainly paid close attention as her sister Shermaine competed in the 100m hurdles semi-final at the Olympic Stadium on Wednesday night.

Williams didn't advance to the final but left the track somewhat satisfied after running her best time of the season and as she spoke of her sister's message before the run, Williams is convinced that she has worked her way to a strong base to build on going into the rest of the season.

"We spoke, she sent me a message before my race wishing me luck and telling me that she would be praying for me," the older Williams smiled.

Williams clocked a season's best 12.86 seconds but crossed the line in fifth position and outside of a qualifying spot.

She was, however, thankful for what she considered a positive point to what has been a trying season for her.

"I'm just giving God thanks because I started my season a whole second slower than what I ran here so I'm just really grateful. I did my best and I got fifth but I'm happy and proud of myself, I've come far this season," said Williams, who barely missed the final at the last Olympics in 2012 in London.

"London being that it was my first one I was a bit nervous but I came out here today a little more in control of my feelings and anxiety. I gave it my best but compared to how the season started this is something for me to be happy about," she added.
