Lyn lists plans if re-elected as swimming boss

Martin Lyn, former president of the Amateur Swimming Association of Jamaica, says that if re-elected to the role, he would not allow what he calls a decline in the body's operation to take place.

Lyn says that although he did not put his name forward as a nominee for the presidential election at the next Annual General Meeting, the clubs who tendered the no-confidence vote against the current board have all said they want his return.

"If somebody needs to come in to steer the ship straight, so to speak, I would be prepared to come in," he says.

Current executive

Lyn says that one of the failures of the current executive is what he calls the decline of sponsorship in the last year.

He says that his board, on the other hand, was successful in earning the funds needed for improving facilities, including the repairing of the 25-metre pool at the National Aquatic Centre in Kingston.

"I was instrumental in making sure that those funds were allocated," Lyn says. "In fact, they were allocated and the renovation to the pool should commence as early as next week.

Governing body

"Another thing that I definitely would like to push on is to get a 50-metre pool in another part of Jamaica - preferably in the west, where we can tap into aquatics on that side of the island and not just focus on Kingston and St Andrew."

Lyn says the association needs to also be kept in what he calls "good stead" with FINA - the world governing body of aquatics - as well as the Sports Development Foundation.

He says that in doing this, Jamaica would be in a good position to resume hosting international meets.

"The planning of CARIFTA 2018 [which will be hosted in Jamaica] would be paramount in anybody's minds, whoever they may be, that takes over the association.
