As the countdown for the 2025 staging of the Gibson/McCook Relays begin, the vice-chairman of the meet's organising committee Errol Greene has promised fans will be treated to a world-class event.

The track meet is to be held on February 22 at the National Stadium with the event schedule set to kick off at 9:30 a.m.

Speaking at the press launch yesterday at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel, Greene said the competition has high standards to maintain.

This comes as he revealed the Gibson/McCook Relays has earned the status as a World Athletic Tier Two competition ahead of this year's staging.

"We have grown and expanded over the years. We have had our highs and we have survived our lows," he stated.

"We have seen many persons come and go but we are still here. The recognition and expansion of what we have seen is notable in that the World Athletics has now ranked Gibson as a Tier Two event."

Greene stated with the achievement means the competition's organisers and the meet volunteers will have to ensure the meet can maintain their new global status.

"That speaks volume and when we speak now as an organising committee, we have that privilege. So we are preparing our members and volunteers to offer the type of world class service that will keep us in that position."

Dr Marion DuCasse, chair of the organising committee, said one of the ways the meet will be able to meet its high standards is through the several sponsors who have committed their support ahead of the event.

Their presenting sponsors, sporting apparel giants PUMA, and major sponsors Television Jamaica (TVJ) and the Wisynco Group Limited, were among the multitude of names that were the toast of the press launch.

DuCasse explained each of the 40 events on their schedule will have its own individual sponsor, to ensure they were well-recognised.

"I want to say at this stage that we do have 40 events and we have the sponsorships to ensure that all 40 events are sponsored," she stated.

"It is not many organisations that can have presenting sponsors in PUMA, major sponsors in TVJ and Wisynco Group, but also have so many additional sponsors to ensure that each event is specially recognised."

DuCasse also explained that fans will be entertained by several of Jamaica's best athletes as she confirmed an excess of 2,500 entries.

"We have an event that we know will be enjoyed and we are know the entries are coming in. We do not have the final number but we know that we have over 250 schools islandwide, in addition to clubs and institutions, that makes sure we have over 2,500 athletes are taking part."
