Coach believes Under-21 netballers developing right attitude

Coach Conrad Parkes says that his Under-21 Suns are developing the right attitude ahead of next year's Under-21 Netball World Cup in Botswana.

The Suns [who are a practice team derived from the national team] recorded their second straight win after beating defending champions, the Clarendon Gaters, 31-30, in the lone Berger Elite League match on Tuesday night.

Parkes says that he expected his side to give a good showing against the Gaters after they defeated the Under-21 Shiners (the other team split from the national side) on Saturday.

"When you win one match it gives some positive attitude to players," he said. "I was expecting the team to perform well even though we did not have some of our main players. The girls dug deep and played and executed and it happened for us."

Despite being on a two- match unbeaten run, Parkes says that there are things about their performance that need improvement.

"We are elated and I'm happy that the girls are doing this well.

Tactical play

"It is about development and you know our objective is to play in the league and to develop our own skills and tactical play leading up to Botswana in July 2017.

"The girls are doing just well. We are happy about it, but we have a lot to work on."

Parkes says that his players are developing the attitude that teaches them that even when they do not win, they can be pleased with the performance. He said he hopes that allows them to play hard each time they step on the court.

Gaters coach Dalton Hinds says that they have been having what he describes as a "rough year".

"That is as it relates to the fact that most of the ladies currently on the team have job commitments," he said.
