Speid vs Shaw for KSAFA's top post

Former president Rudolph Speid and Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) general secretary are expected to go head to head for the top job in Corporate Area football after current president Ambassador A.B. 'Stewart' Stephenson steps down.

Stephenson is reported to be stepping down because of what he has described as 'personal reasons'. That decision is expected to come as early as today at a press briefing.

A two-time president of KSAFA, Stephenson first held the post in 1996 and served for 11 years. He was then succeeded by Speid. He then returned to replace Speid in 2014 and was in his second term. He remained in the post after the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) extended the term limit for confederation presidents to four years.

Shaw told STAR Sports yesterday that he will be seeking the top post in the association while Speid has also stated his interest.

According to Shaw he was surprised that Stephenson was stepping aside at this time.

"We are surprised as we were not expecting him to go," Shaw said. "He was in the first year of his four-year term and we did not want him to go. We tried to convince him to stay but he has made his choice."

Shaw says he does not expect too many changes in the association as the rest of the executive body should remain.

"The team will still be there," he says. "We will be okay. The only change is that I will be running for the presidency."

Nominations for the post of president of KSAFA will open next week.
