Powell misses 98th sub-10

Asafa Powell missed out his 98th sub-10 second clocking of his career when he finished second in 10.08 seconds behind South African Akani Simbine, who clocked 9.99 seconds in the opening meet of the IAAF Diamond League in Doha, Qatar yesterday.

Powell, who is the Guinness World Recorder holder for most sub-10 second runs over 100 metres, with 97, is aiming to go the full hundred this season.

He had a strong start running out of lane two and was ahead of hometown runner Femi Ogunode who was third in 10.13 and long time American rival Justin Gatlin, who placed fourth in 10.14 seconds.

Canadian Andre De Grasse was fifth in 10.21, followed by Ivory Coast's Ben Youssef Meite, sixth in 10.21, Ronnie Baker seventh in 10.24 and Kim Collins in last place, clocking 10.33 seconds.

Powell's finish gives him seven points in the Diamond standings, one behind Simbine.
