No Mas! - Frustrated amateur boxer eyes Trinidad move

Frustrated local fighter Ricardo Carter says that he is ready to pack up and leave Jamaica for Trinidad and Tobago, where he will switch from amateur to professional boxing.

Carter, a former Caribbean champion at the amateur level, says that he is ready to advance to the professional level of boxing, but doing so in Jamaica will not allow him to provide for his wife and children.

"If you have kids, you're not getting the support. Right now, my decision is to go pro and look for a better future," Carter told STAR Sports.

"Going pro in Jamaica doesn't make sense to me in this weight class," he said, adding that he has already discussed the move with his coach, Fareed Ahmed, who he met while living and training in the twin-island republic.

"When I was in Trinidad, he was the one who supported me over all the years I was there," he said.

The 23-year-old says that the state of boxing in Jamaica has demotivated him, causing him to consider quitting the sport altogether.

"Sometimes I feel to give up boxing," he shared. "Boxing ain't doing nothing for us in Jamaica as amateurs."

Carter, who represents Dream Sports Gym, lost his bout against Bruising Gym's Sanjay Williams on last week's Contender undercard. It was his first loss in his three straight weeks of fighting. The decision left him feeling hard done by, contributing to his decision.
