Former JFF boss Boxhill throws support behind Stephenson

Former Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) president Crenston Boxhill says Ambassador Stewart Stephenson has all the necessary requirements for the role of JFF president, and is giving the candidate his support for the presidential, elections later this month.

Boxhill, who served the federation between 2003 and 2007, described Stephenson as a senior campaigner, adding that the attorney-at-law had been around for as long as he Boxhill had been.

"In terms of administration of the sport, maybe not at this level as the president of the federation, but as president of KSAFA (Kingston and St Andrew Football Association)," he said.

Boxhill was speaking after Stephenson officially announced his campaign manifesto to supporters of his candidature, at a breakfast ceremony on Thursday.

National selection pools

One of the things mentioned in the manifesto was the creation of two national selection pools at each age group level, one western, the other eastern, in order to ease the difficulty of players travelling across the island for training camps.

Another idea mentioned was the creation of a football philosophy to be shared by national teams at every age group.

Boxhill said that he was impressed by the manifesto and also by the calibre of names at the head of some of Corporate Jamaica's larger entities, who have publicly endorsed Stephenson.

"I think he is on the right track, he has some good advisers around him, but I'm very impressed with the launch of the manifesto," Boxhill said.

"I'm impressed with the contents, and I'm even more impressed with the turnout of the business sector. It is in no way possible for football to go forward without the corporate support."
