Speid content with rotated squad

Wolmer's Boys' Technical Director Rudolph Speid said that he is not fussed about the score not being higher in his team's 5-0 win over Kingston High in the ISSA/Flow Manning Cup yesterday, as he was rotating his squad to try out new strategies.

Wolmer's had control of the game from start to finish but squandered many chances, although Kingston High goalkeeper Kenneth Whitton made some good saves throughout. Speid also said that the field impacted the result, as the game started after heavy rainfall earlier in the afternoon.

"The conditions were bad but today (Friday) we tried some different combinations and we're still searching for the perfect team," he said. "We started five different players from those that started the other game (a 2-0 win over Haile Selassie High on Tuesday), but, at this stage, you're just glad for the three points and we got them, so we're happy.

Speid said that the intention behind rotating is to see if his bench players are mentally and physically prepared for tougher conditions later in the tournament.

"What I was trying to achieve today was to give all the players in the squad a run out. That's what we achieved today. Of course, when I was ready, I put on back some of the regular players. Still trying to see what these players would do in this type of situation because the going is gonna get rougher from here on in."

Wolmer's has now scored 15 goals in their three games, while conceding none, and they sit at the top of Group A on nine points.

Looking to bounce back

Meanwhile, Omar Edwards and his Denham Town High team will be looking for a quick bounce back from their 3-0 loss to St Catherine High in the ISSA/Flow Manning Cup when they meet Vauxhall High at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex later today.

Edwards said he was disappointed with how the team lost its shape in their 3-0 loss to St Catherine High on Tuesday, but is looking for improvements today.

"Going up against Vauxhall, it will not be an easy task," Edwards said. "We lost our defensive shape for most of (the St Catherine game), but we have done some serious work on that and we are hoping that coming up against Vauxhall, we shall see improvements in how we defend. I want us to put away the chances that we have created in the last game that we did not capitalise from."
