Worrying times for H'View

Chairman of Harbour View football Club Carvel Stewart admits that there is an eerie sense of worry hovering over the club as the Stars of the East have got off to their worst start in the over 20 years they have been playing top-flight football.

The Ricardo 'Bibi' Gardner-coached team has only registered one point out of the four games they have played.

It is the first time since the club returned to top-flight football in the mid-1990s that it is failing to register a victory in their first four games and as a result, sit last in the point standings.

"It is more than a little bit worrying. There is significant concern, but the coaches are working overtime with the players to get their mental approach better settled. They think their concentration levels need to be improved, so they are working on those aspects," Stewart said.

"We had a fairly lengthy meeting on Wednesday night to discuss a variety of things, and I am pleased with the attitude of the coaching staff and the efforts they are putting in. So, hopefully, they can convince the players of their capabilities and the need for them to perform at a higher level."

RIGHTCOACHING

Harbour View is one of four clubs that have been playing in the nation's top flight for the last 20 seasons, the other three being Waterhouse, Tivoli Gardens and Arnett Gardens, which have been in the league since 1977.

But Stewart believes that his side will maintain its status among the big four as he is confident that he has the right coaching staff in place to turn it around.

When asked if he would consider a coaching change if they are to be relegated, Stewart urged patience.

"This is Ricardo's second year in charge, and we need to see another couple of years. It is just for him and his team to pull us out of this thing. We are not thinking of changing our people at all," Stewart said.

Harbour View is scheduled to play Dunbeholden tomorrow at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.
