Gayle, Russell headline US Open T20
The 'Universe Boss' Chris Gayle and 'Super Man' Andre Russell are expected to feature at this year's US Open T20 tournament, which will be played from December 15 to 20 at the Central Broward Regional Park in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The West Indies T20 superstar Gayle will line up for the Atlanta Param Veers at the tournament, which is in its 12th year of operation. Russell will be on show with the Somerset Cavaliers, who won the title back in 2017.
Gayle will be fresh from his Indian Premier League stint with the Kings XI Punjab, where he scored 288 runs in seven matches. He will be joined in the Atlanta-based team with fellow Jamaicans Fabian Allen, Marquino Mindley, Garth Garvey and Damion Ebanks.
WITHDRAWAL
The swashbuckling left-hander Gayle had withdrawn from the 2020 edition of the Sri Lanka Premier League due to injury. He was slated to turn out for the Kandy Tuskers.
Russell, on the other hand, is currently playing in the Lanka Premier League with the Colombo Kings. He is expected to line up alongside compatriots Kennar Lewis, Krishmar Santokie and Shawn Findlay in the Cavaliers squad.
Other Jamaicans who are expected to be on show are Chadwick Walton with the 22 Yards Sultans, Christopher Lamont (USA All-Stars) and Ryan Francis (Afghan Zwanan CC).
Six teams of two groups will battle for US$100,000 in prize money, with the semi-finals and final set for December 19 and 20.
