The sky is the limit for this team – Pollard
West Indies captain Kieron Pollard says the current one-day international (ODI) side has the potential to go on to do bigger and better things, following the team's five-wicket win in the third and final ODI against Sri Lanka in Antigua, which saw the home side sweeping the series 3-0 yesterday.
The regional side rode their way to victory on the back of a magnificent century from Darren Bravo, who scored 102 off 132 balls, to set the platform for the West Indies run chase, after restricting the visitors to 274 for six in 50 overs. Bravo, who was scoring his fourth ODI century and his first in nearly five years, hit five fours and four sixes, while sharing in two half-century partnerships with Shai Hope, who made 64 and Pollard who scored an unbeaten 53 in the West Indies total of 276 for five in 48.3 overs.
Earlier, West Indies left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein bagged three for 33 from his 10 overs while there was a wicket each for Alzarri Joseph and Jason Mohammed.
TOP SCORER
Wanindu Hasaranga, batting at number eight, was the innings top scorer for the Sri Lankans, hitting a belligerent 80 off 60 balls with seven fours and three sixes.
The win for the West Indies was captain Pollard's 11th in 17 games, and the Trinidadian believes the progress is due to the hard work and the commitment which the players have been showing over the past weeks.
"The win was good and it has given us the confidence to show we can do certain things. We have to use our home advantage because we are accustomed to playing in the Caribbean. Once we come and we prepare as a team and do what is necessary, the sky is the limit for us," added Pollard.
Pollard had high praises for his batting unit which impressed in each of the encounters, with the top order of Shai Hope, Evin Lewis and Darren Bravo being singled out for their remarkable achievements in the series.
"We have identified from the start that we wanted to get a start and getting guys batting 50 overs and batting long. It was nice to see every game we got a hundred, Hope in the first match, Evin in the second and Bravo in the last game. This shows that the guys are focused on what they want to do and what they want to achieve," added Pollard.
