The Jamaica Scorpions opted for two tried and tested players, as they completed their 15-member squad following the draft of Cricket West Indies Professional Cricket League (PCL) yesterday.

The Andre Coley-coached Scorpions used their two picks to secure the services of fast bowler Nicholson Gordon and batting all-rounder Alwyn Williams who both have eight and five first-class matches under their belt, respectively.

Gordon, who played five matches for Jamaica last year, snared 17 wickets with best bowling figures of six for 73 in an innings.

Williams, who opened the innings with captain John Campbell, in three games last year, totalled 40 runs and picked up seven wickets with his handy medium pace.

The draft, which was conducted over two rounds, saw each franchise allocated 90 seconds to make their picks. Round one picks were completed in the reverse order of the tournament standings at the end of the 2019/2020 West Indies Championship, which was won by the Barbados Pride, meaning the Leeward Island Hurricanes had the first pick.

Starting July 1, 2021, a total of 90 professional cricketers, inclusive of the 12 cricketers drafted on Tuesday, will receive regional retainer contracts for the next 12 months.
