West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite says his team will be looking to finish the year strong and continue their march up the ICC Test Championship table when they take on Sri Lanka in a two-Test series that bowls off on November 20.

The West Indies currently have 12 points after winning one and losing a Test in this current cycle which will run until 2023. India currently lead the table with 26 points followed by England with 14 points and Pakistan with 12 points.

For Brathwaite, a march towards the final continues with the series against Sri Lanka, and nothing more than a win will be the focus for the regional side.

"This Test championship is the second time around for us and in the first season, we saw where we are at. We aim to be higher because there is a final and that is all the team's focus. For us, we are taking it game by game," said Brathwaite.

Brathwaite and the rest of the West Indies players got their first workout in Sri Lanka on Thursday after breaking their two-day curfew.

"The guys are very happy after the first day back out of quarantine and they are focused and ready to go. The team has been doing well this year and for us, we need to finish well."

The West Indies began the year with a 2-0 series win away to Bangladesh before a 0-0 draw in a home Test series against Sri Lanka. The regional side was, however, beaten 2-0 at home by South Africa, before squaring the series at one apiece against Pakistan in the Caribbean.

For Brathwaite, the team will have to be more consistent with a packed and stacked schedule on the horizon in 2022.

"It's important for us to close out the year strong. Next year we have some competitive series as well, so we have two Test games left which are 10 days, so we just have to break that down, session by session, and stick to our game plan and do well for the region," said Brathwaite.
