JWPL boots Vere United
Vere United, last season's beaten semi-finalists, are expelled from the Sherwin Williams-sponsor Jamaica Women's Premier League (JWPL) after failing to honour their first two fixtures.
Vere's expulsion is based on articles 7.5 and 7.6 of the JWPL regulations, which state: "If a team does not report for a match - except in cases of force majeure recognised by the JFF Competitions Committee - or if it refuses to continue to play or leaves the stadium/venue before the end of a match, the team shall be considered as having lost, with three points shall be awarded to their opponents, with a score of 3-0 or more if, in the case of an abandoned match, the winners have already reached a higher score at the time the guilty team leaves the field. The guilty team shall be fined $50,000."
According to the regulations, the guilty team may also be referred to the JFF Disciplinary Committee for further actions to be taken by Article 69 of the JFF Disciplinary Code.
The article states that the guilty offenders are excluded from further participation in the competition so that none of their matches will be deemed valid. In addition, the guilty club shall pay for any damages or losses suffered by the other club(s).
Furthermore, the guilty club shall be disqualified from participating in the next Jamaica Women's Premier League and shall forfeit any claim to financial remuneration from the JFF.
Vere United became the third team this season to leave the JWPL. Rangers Football Club and Royal Lakes Football Club withdrew due to 'unforeseen circumstances'.
