Thomas steals spotlight at All Comers meet
JAVARI THOMAS of Dynamic Speed Track Club stole the spotlight at last Saturday's JAAA All Comers meet at the National Stadium with impressive wins in the men's 100 and 200 metres.
Thomas, St Jago High past student, captured the 100m in 10.11 seconds and the 200m in 20.55 seconds to produce the most impressive performances of the meet as junior and senior athletes warmed up for next month's National Championships.
In the 100m, Earl Simmonds of GC Foster College was second in 10.13 with third going to Herbert Morrison Technical schoolboy Deandre Daley in 10.14. In the 200m, Michael Sharp of GC Foster College took second in 20.83 with Antonio Watson of Racers Track Club, who finished second behind Thomas ending third overall in 20.86 in the timed finals.
Running competitively for the first time since her injury at the Miramer Invitational meet last month, national sprinter Shashalee Forbes returned to competition with a win. She won the 100m in 11.11. Schoolgirl Theianna-Lee Terrelonge of Edwin Allen High won her heat to be second overall in 11.24 with SprinTec's Remona Burchell third overall in 11.26.
Amoi Brown of MVP Track Club won the women's 100m hurdles in 12.88 seconds. It was close for second and third with Habiba Harris of St Elizabeth Technical, the Carfta Games Under-20 champion, edging out Janeek Brown for second. Both athletes were awarded the same time, 13.03.
In the women's 400m, Ronda Whyte of UWI Mona came out on top in 54.01 seconds. Rickiann Russell of G.C. Foster College was second in 54.04 with third going to Shanque Williams of St Elizabeth Technical in 54.17.
In the men's 400m, Amal Glasgow of Kingston College came out on top after clocking 47.08. Roshane Symister of Jamaica College was second in 47.41 while Jalen Dyett of MVP Track Club was third in 47.43.
In other events, the Edwin Allen duo of Tony-Ann Beckford with 58.72 and Natasha Fox with 59.85 took second and third, respectively in the women's 400m hurdles.
Daniel Wright of Excelsior High came out on top in the men's 400m hurdles in 52.71 while Shaiquan Dunn continued his good season form in the men's discus after winning with a throw of 63.13m.
