Shaw scores twice to put City on top
Reggae Girl Khadija Shaw scored twice as Manchester City came from behind to defeat Liverpool 2-1 in the Women's Super League at Anfield Stadium in England yesterday.
Manchester moved to the top of the league with 10 points after the win while Liverpool remained in fifth with five.
Liverpool led 1-0 at half-time after a goal by Canadian Olivia Smith in the 41st minute but Shaw found her best form to power Manchester City to victory in the second half.
Shaw pulled her team level in the 58th minute with a well-placed header after Lauren Hemp floated a dangerous cross into the six-yard area. Goalkeeper Rachael Laws dived full-stretch but the header landed just inside the left post before lodging into the back of the net.
Manchester City came very close to taking the lead shortly after but Shaw's shot hit the left post and rebounded into play.
The 27 year-old Jamaican forward would not be denied. Two minutes into injury time (92nd), she collected a pass on the right from Lala Aleixandri Lopez and powered away from her marker before slamming an unstoppable shot past Laws to register her third league goal of the season in four matches.
Shaw will again be in action on Wednesday when Manchester City travel to Austria for a Women's Champions League match against St Polten. In their last match in the Champions League Manchester City blanked Barcelona 2-0 with Shaw getting the second goal in the 77th minute.
