Busby pleased with Reggae Girlz’s win over Peru
LIMA, Peru:
Reggae Girlz head coach Hubert Busby says it was mission accomplished, as his Jamaica side carved out a comfortable 2-0 victory over Peru in an International friendly on Sunday at the Estadio Alberto Gallardo stadium..
The match, held on Peruvian soil, saw the Caribbean side extend their winning streak to three consecutive matches for the first time since 2022.
The Reggae Girlz wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Jody Brown opening the scoring in the 5th minute, thanks to an assist from Kayla McKenna.
The second goal came in the 52nd minute, this time with McKenna turning from provider to scorer, thanks to Brown returning the favour.
Busby expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, emphasising the importance of the result and the experience gained by younger players.
"It's about us getting a result and finding a way to get a result when you come to environments like this," Busby said. "This is what we're preparing for when it comes to potential World Cup qualifiers on the horizon."
"Overall, I think what was really promising was the fact that we were able to make a lot of subs, get a lot of young players in to give them their debut, for them to come on and really get the experience of what it's like to play international football in these environments. From that perspective, the objectives are met, and we're happy with that."
The Reggae Girlz will square off with Peru again tomorrow at the Eastadio Miguel Grau at 4 p.m. Jamaica time. - CMC
