My girlfriend wears pants to church
Dear Pastor,
I am a 25-year-old man and I am a Christian. I am a youth director in my church. I am in love with a young woman but we can't see eye to eye on many issues.
She wants to dress in pants and attend church. She is not a member of the church I attend. I told her that I did not appreciate her wearing pants to church, especially when she was visiting my church. She told me that I was too 'old timeish' and at the church she attended, even the pastor's wife wore pants. We have argued over the matter many times and she has tried to change me. She has even tried to get me to leave my church and attend hers. That I will not do.
I grew up in this church. My parents are active here. All six of us as children got baptised in this church. I am not against my girlfriend wearing pants, but I don't think it's appropriate to wear pants on a Sunday to church. My mother dresses in pants to go to Bible class when it is cold, but never on a Sunday morning. This girl sings very well. I can see that she would be an asset to my ministry, but she is trying to control me and I will not stand for that.
Another thing, Pastor, I do not speak in tongues and my church does not emphasise tongue speaking. My girlfriend said that we do not emphasise it because we are not spiritual. My mother is a very spiritual woman and she does not speak in tongues. I do not know what to do because I love my girlfriend. She is two years my senior. I have to show good examples to the young people in my church. What do you think I should do? Should I tell her it is over or should I continue dating her and hoping that she will change?
W.R.
