Women saluted at Emancipation Park

Organisers of the free International Women's Day Concert promised that the inclement weather would not put a damper on the evening's proceedings and it didn't.

Despite intermittent showers, the concert inside the Emancipation Park in New Kingston went on as planned with scores of Jamaicans turning out to support the event.

Gender Affairs Minister Olivia 'Babsy' Grange was among the guests that turned up.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation gender specialist Sheila Coates expressed happiness to partner with the Ministry in putting on the event.

She expressed joy at the government's efforts to shed light on gender-based violence, stating that no change can happen if a society doesn't face its problems.

"Let us support each other out of love and respect for each other," she said, encouraging women to stop supporting things that don't promote and uplift them.

Tony Rebel, Adahzeh, Bounty Killer, Marcia Griffiths, Tarrus Riley and Judy Mowatt were some of the entertainers on the line-up.
