Exciting weekend for carnival lovers

As the carnival season nears its climax, this weekend will see promoters going overboard to win the hearts of soca lovers, and as such, the carnival calendar is packed with excitement this weekend.

Starting today, veteran selector and operator of Renaissance Sound and Silent Noise DJ Delano will host the first and official Silent Carnival series, which will run to April 17 which is expected to feature five events.

FIRST OF ITS KIND

Delano has partnered with Nick Mack of Ocho Rios Nightlife to host the series, and he told THE WEEKEND STAR; "This is the first of its kind in the Caribbean. There are events of this nature in Europe, but none has had its own carnival. We are getting good feedback from persons in the rural areas, and we are hoping that the Kingston audience will choose us over events as the after-parties following the major events set for the weekend."

The Silent Carnival events will be in St Ann, St Elizabeth, and St Catherine.

On the louder side, Saturday will see Bacchanal Jamaica hosting the annual Beach J'ouvert, a known crowd puller.

The event will be hosted at the Grizzly's Plantation in St Ann for the first time.

Though Jamaica Carnival cancelled its St Elizabeth Blow Out FÍte, which was planned for Saturday, the team confirmed that all other activities leading up to the Road March on Sunday, April 23, will be executed as planned.

Also, today, Xaymaca will be hosting its first Grey Goose Carnival Bae at Devon House. It will also host another event titled Feterans at Grizzly's Plantation on Sunday.

The relatively silent Xodus Carnival will also host a Tailgate Party today at the National Stadium car park.

The team is also gearing up for the first staging of Jungle J'ouvert, scheduled for April 21.

Recording artiste Horseman kicked off the carnival celebrations with his annual event, Soca on the Beach, last Sunday in Little Ochie.

The event featured soca princess Patrice Roberts.
