Deejay begs for Vybz Kartel's release

Dancehall artiste Praj-X has released a controversial single called 'Go Fi Kartel', which has been making rounds on mixtapes.

According to the artiste, Vybz Kartel is his mentor and he wanted to show his support for the incarcerated deejay.

"It's a song that has a message that we want Vybz Kartel to be free. It's not to be taken literal that we are going to break into the prison and buss him out, but the lyrics reflects the idea that the music industry is missing the icon. Vybz Kartel is a trendsetter and the standard for modern dancehall. Nuff artistes borrow him style and don't give credit, but we don't do dem thing deh round here. While reasoning with Phantom one day, the topic pop up and me just put the song together," he said.

Praj-X also revealed that fans of Vybz Kartel have already embraced the record.

"On YouTube, people have been commenting that they are supporting the song because of its Gaza affiliation. It is burning up mixtapes and even in the dances, so it's really a good look. We are looking to film some videos for other songs I am promoting, and I might do one for this as well because the place is on fire right now. I have been doing music for years now, and I am very excited to see that I am finally making progress," he said, noting that he is working with local producers like Phantom, Friends For Real, Pantason, Grabbed Records and Meiselfandi Entertainment.

"Well, yuh done know seh bad come out of good, and good come out of bad. I always try fi get the good out of a bad situation. I am just working and recording songs that needs to be done, while remaining in my moral comfort level. My style is new, and the topics that I use to construct my songs are one of a kind. I feel like now is the time for a new vibration," he said.

Praj-X also wants to bring back originality to the dancehall scene, since several young acts have sought to mimic popular acts to achieve musical success.
