Khago considers Muslim faith

Dancehall artiste Khago, who recently cut his locks, is now sporting a beard and revealed to THE WEEKEND STAR yesterday that he has been studying the Muslim faith.

He said that he used his time away from the mainstream to do some self-searching.

"There is no need to be afraid of Muslims because at the end of the day, we are all worshipping the same God, it's just left up to interpretation. In a real life, Christians can be violent, sharks are violent and even birds kill so it's not like all Muslims are violent," he said. Khago said the majority of Muslims are good people who are on a mission of peace.

"I am not yet a Muslim but I am closer to the teachings now. As for my locks, I decided to cut it because it was heavy and causing pain to my neck. Everybody wears locks for different reasons and I don't wish to reveal mine," he said.

He also said his decision to immerse himself into the faith does not contradict his drive to continue releasing hardcore dancehall music.

"Rappers like Beanie Sigel are Muslim and they still do good music that appeal to their hardcore fans. At the end of the day, it's about having a clean heart and living good like human beings should," he said.

MUSIC FOR THE FANS

As for rival artistes who interpreted Sidung Inna Mi Place as meaning 'sidung inna mi face', Khago said he does not make music for artistes.

However, his fans are free to call it as they wish as long as it is a topic of discussion.

"These artistes are always trying to kill other artistes and that is why dancehall can't go far because it has to start over each time it rises," he said.

He compared the situation to when Tommy Lee came with a new style, and, in his opinion, other artistes decided to fight his career and drain his energy.

The song which is now viral, has been welcomed by female fans. Khago also said the concept was inspired by a female friend who saw videos from Dexta Daps and Alkaline.

"So mi a seh it look like no space is there in the music for artistes like me ... so I started to think, what can I do to compete with this kind of music. I begun to freestyle Gyal Come Inna Mi Place and the female inside the room said 'don't say another word, that is a hit'. After that I just went and did the song," he said.

Khago is set to release a music video for another controversial single Long Gun Boy within days.
