Code Red shines at BRT

With the catalogue of contemporary songs suffering from burn out due to over play at BRT Weekend here in Atlantic City, Code Red dug deep in their repertoire and thrilled party fans.

The sound system, which was piloted by selectors DJ Lank and Chris Dymond stayed away from a barrage of songs from Alkaline and Vybz Kartel and went for the likes of DMX, Jay Z, Busta Rhymes and Biggie Smalls. And the audience loved it.

Chris Dymond, who was playing at his first BRT Weekend, told THE STAR that Code Red understands how to play at a series event.

"We have always been a unique sound system. We don't go with the crowd because we are bold and brave. Music is not about playing the same set of songs for easy forwards and that is why we strive to be different. BRT is a Caribbean audience and so you have to be creative and diverse. We rather play reggaeton and Spanish before wi play what other selectors play already," he said.

DJ Lank said research is necessary when playing at events like these.

"We have done our due research and we are now getting the desired responses. It was hard at first but after a while it became a norm. BRT is an exciting event. However, exciting music has existed for many generations so it is about finding them. We don't have to play the same songs playing everyday on the radio," he said.

The popular sound system was playing at Glow, one of the many parties at BRT Weekend. The event saw thousands of patrons turning up with their glow sticks and glow rings to have fun.

Among the selectors who played at the event was Jabba, who brought down curtains on the event with barrage of hits from Mavado and Aidonia. He also played Dexta Daps' Shabba Madda Pot, despite vowing that would no longer play the artiste.

"Mi nuh like da bwoy ya but mi still play him song," he said to roaring approval.
