French Montana recruits Alkaline

Controversial dancehall artiste Alkaline continues his steady rise in the music industry despite recent controversy, this as the deejay is currently featured on American rapper French Montana's latest album, 'Jungle Rules'.

Alkaline joins Swae Lee, Quavo, T.I., Young Thug, Pharrell, Travis Scott, and the late Chinx, who was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting back in 2015, as artistes who are featured on the project.

The deejay is featured on a track called Formula, which is a remake of Alkaline's original produced by Lee Milla.

THE WEEKEND STAR contacted Milla and he gave an insight into what happened behind the scenes.

"It's a great feeling and it does more for dancehall. This shows that the work has been reaching places. French Montana reached out to Alkaline's management and we took it from there," he said.

INSTRUMENTAL RIGHTS

The producer also noted that despite the song being featured on French Montana's album, he still has rights to his instrumental.

"The negotiation was mutually beneficial and I still have rights to my rhythm ... all of it. Right now wi just grateful like [with the] DJ Khaled album," he said.

Alkaline's producer, DJ Frass, also commented, saying the accomplishment is worthy of celebration. He also said other songs, like Extra Lesson and Fast, have been doing well for the deejay.

"Extra Lesson was recently added to the BBC 1 Xtra A List for two months, and that is rare. The A List is their main playlist, like a Hot 97 in New York, and it means that your song will be played frequently. Extra Lesson is also picking up in the US, and we recently had UK rappers Chip and Kojo Funds on the remix," he said.

Alkaline is booked for Reggae Sumfest 2017.
