Black Star Band looks for 'Shake You Down' success

Roots reggae group the Black Star Band, is currently banking on their latest single called 'Shake You Down' to win commercial success.

Released in June, the song is a cover version of Gregory Abbott's 1986 hit of the same name.

"We aspire to use this song to reach out to as many people across the world as possible, reminding them of love, especially to those who knew the original version of the song, as this would bring back sweet memories of good old days," said guitarist Lance Brown.

Since its release, he said the song has been getting steady rotation on the airwaves.

"We have put a lot of time and energy into it and so far, so good. We will continue to push the single for a long time as we want to make the best out of it," he said.

Shake You Down is co-produced by Mardon Brown and the Black Star Band under the record label B4 Muzik Records.

Brown said the St Thomas-based band was formed in 2000. In addition to Brown, the band also consists of lead singer and keyboard player King Marathon, bass player Mardon Brown, and percussionist Felix Ikpide.

Being a band comes with challenges, but Brown said it's nothing he and his teamates can't overcome.

"It is challenging at times but the band has a great unity and strength which keeps us bonded and grounded therefore we hurdle over obstacles whenever they appear. So we are doing very well. We are also accepted by people outside Jamaica and that plays a big part in our confidence and growth as a band," he said.

The Black Star band has so far released four albums and is currently working on another, slated to be released later this year.
