While he may not have made history on Wednesday by becoming the first artiste to win back-to-back awards for Best Reggae Act at the annual Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards, dancehall artiste Popcaan still wrote his name in the history books another way.

The entertainer was named the only Jamaican artiste to have a song on the Rolling Stone 50 Best Songs of 2017 list.

He accomplished this feat through a collaboration with virtual British band, Gorillaz.

The song, Saturnz Barz, came in at number 38 on the list. Saturnz Barz is a single on the Gorillaz album Humanz which was on Tuesday nominated in the Best Alternative Music Album category for next year's Grammy Awards.

Popcaan, featuring on the list, sees him rubbing shoulders with the likes of Rihanna, DJ Khaled, Cardi B, Kendrick Lamar and Ed Sheeran, all of whom have songs on the list as well.

THE STAR was unable to reach the entertainer for an official comment on his latest accomplishment, but the deejay seemed to be happy with it.

A post was made by the entertainer on his Instagram page in which he shared the news of the song making the prestigious Rolling Stones list.

"@rollingstone 50 BIGGEST SONGS OF 2017 #38," the El Chappo singer's caption read along with the hashtag History Either Way.

The post has been met with several messages of congratulations as fans praised the deejay for his latest accomplishment.

MUSICAL LEAP

Popcaan has been making a few historic musical leaps with this collab. Back in April, following the release of the song's official visuals, the video made headlines across the globe for making the biggest debut for a virtual reality music video in YouTube history.

In its first 48 hours of release, the music video surpassed five million views and within the first week of upload, it had climbed to 14 million views.

This is the second time a collaboration featuring the entertainer has made it on to the Best Songs of the year list by a major music magazine.

Back in 2015, the collaborative single, Good Times, produced by English DJ Jamie xx, which features American rapper Young Thug, was named one of the best songs for 2015 out of a list of 10 by Billboard magazine.
