Producer's death shocks entertainment industry
Mineral Boss, producer of Mavado’s hit single, 'Progress', has been killed.
According to information obtained from the police's Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), Mineral Boss Records' (MBR) CEO Cleon Jones, aka Corey, was shot and killed in his community of Caymanas Bay, St Catherine, by unknown assailants.
CCU said the attack happened at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday while Jones was in the company of a woman. Both were shot during the incident and taken to hospital, where Jones was pronounced dead. The cause of the attack is still unknown, and the Portmore police are currently carrying out investigations.
As news of Jones’ death spread, the entertainment industry was stunned into shock. Many fellow entertainers paid tribute to the producer via social media, urging Jamaicans to stop the senseless killing.
I-Octane was one of the first entertainers to pay tribute.
“Jahkno star. R. I. P River Boss. A last night mi and you deh pon di phone a plan fi 2018 star, and den mi get a call say di man tek yuh life star. Mi nah lie, mi feel it, star,” his Instagram post read.
QQ also paid tribute via Instagram, pointing out that the crime and violence crippling Jamaica is leaving many young children parentless.
“Jahkno, star Jamaica, wah really a gwaan,” part of his post read. “We can't kill off we people dem so yo. We a leave a lot of youths fatherless and motherless. We can't live so and a act like this is normal. RIP Corey, Jahkno, it hurt me, dawg.”
Teflon, ZJ Sparks, Esco, dancer Latonya Style and Razor B were also among those reacting to the death of the 37-year old musician.
Jones is the second individual from the music fraternity to be murdered in recent times. Last month, entertainer Unycorn was also shot and killed.
An Instagram post on Mineral Boss' official page a mere hours before his death suggested that the producer was gearing up for big things in 2018. Urging his fans to get ready for the hits, he gave them a preview of what was to come, pointing out new music with entertainer Mavado.
Last year, MBR scored a smash number one hit with Mavado's Progress on the 'Money Boss' rhythm. The song is featured on DJ Khaled’s Major Keys album, which topped the Billboard album charts late last year.
