Tall Boss cut short ... popular sound system operator could face extradition

Operator of popular sound system Di Unit, Davey Alexander Scott, aka Tall Boss and DJ Tallman, is to return to court on February 1 after he made an appearance at the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday.

Scott, was arrested at his home in Portmore, St Catherine, early Tuesday morning.

He is charged with possession of a controlled and dangerous substance, presenting false information to law enforcement officers and attempting to cause and/or purposely or recklessly causing bodily harm to a police officer stemming from a 2001 incident in the US.

According to Assistant Superintendent Dahlia Garrick, Scott has been wanted by US officials since November of that year. 

It is reported that Scott allegedly sold more than 25 pounds of marijuana to an undercover detective in Franklin Lakes, then struck a Bergen County Prosecutor's Office detective with his vehicle when he fled the scene. He was arrested but later fled the country to Jamaica after posting bail.

Scott, who was listed on the Bergen County sheriff's most wanted list, managed to elude the New Jersey police by ‘hiding’ out in Jamaica. He was added to the list in 2007.

Scott was represented yesterday by attorney Donahue Martin who was filling in for Tom Tavares-Finson. 

Martin told THE WEEKEND STAR that according to the prosecutor, a warrant was issued for Scott’s arrest after he failed to appear in a US court in 2004.

“Today (yesterday) is the first time he has been brought before the court since he was apprehended on Tuesday. The prosecutor is expected to present the diplomatic notes and the arrest warrant tomorrow (today).  They also stated that other evidence will be presented on the next court date,” he said.

For more than a decade, Scott was a member of Flava Unit Sound System but parted ways in 2015 to form Di Unit, which gradually rose to fame around the entertainment circuit. 

Di Unit has also made appearances in sections of Africa and the Caribbean.
