Up-and-coming artiste Ghee P has decided to tackle the issue of poverty in his latest single.

The track, aptly titled Poverty, speaks about the lack of opportunities facing the people of Jamaica.

In the song, the artiste laments that despite the fact that the national heroes fought relentlessly to ensure a better way of life for Jamaicans, many are still living below their means.

"I can't help but wonder if they (the national heroes) are being punished for the fight they put up. Many of our people are so poor. This would be really disappointing," he said.

The artiste also spoke about Africa, pointing out that had the people not been robbed of so much, they would be better off today.

He believes that Africans were robbed of a fair opportunity to compete with developed countries. He is hoping that the message in the song will get the attention of people in both Jamaica and Africa. "It's a captivating song, and I hope it will resonate well with the listeners, who will not only sing along to it, but pay close attention to the lyrics so we can work towards getting a better Jamaica and Africa," he said. "I also took the liberty to add some African language to the song because you have to speak the same language if you want to make a connection."

Ghee P said he feels a special connection to Africa and has learnt some of the languages spoken there despite not ever visiting the continent.

"One Love change the world when Bob Marley sing it, and that is the impact I want my records to have," he said. "Music is education, and so, I do my research because I take my craft very seriously. Music is about enlightenment and reaching our brothers and sisters to evoke change," he said.

The artiste is expected to embark on a series of shows during the festive season in and attempt to generate more buzz surrounding the song going into 2019.
