Expect anybody! - Popcaan promises more surprises at Unruly Fest

'Firm and Strong' artiste Popcaan continues to hold tight to his chest the names of the international artistes who are expected to perform at Unruly Fest in Morant Bay, St Thomas, on December 21.

"Unruly is a fest where anybody can pull up, not a fest created for just our artistes. it is a worldwide fest, and the aim is to bring my parish home, St Thomas, to the world," Popcaan told THE WEEKEND STAR.

Last year, the St Thomas-born entertainer flew in acts such as Drake and Tory Lanez for the show. He announced on Wednesday night that local entertainers such as Agent Sasco, Capleton, Jah Frass, Chronic Law, Sizzla Kalonji, Bounty Killer, and Quada were in the line-up for this year, but the question on everybody's lips was which international artiste could outdo Drake's 2018 performance.

Unruly Fest, which is in its second year, was held at a smaller venue in Lyssons in the parish last year, but is being moved to Goodyear Oval, once home to the now defunct East Fest a production of Morgan Heritage.

"Me just waan mek unuh know seh Unruly Fest is a special event because me been a plan it long time. before me coulda even afford fi do it, me save up me money and put in the work until me can do it, suh it won't be a normal show," Popcaan said.

He added: "Expect anybody! It is an international show for St Thomas, and me dweet from my heart - not to mek money or nutn - because no matter what them say, St Thomas is not a forgotten parish because it is my parish, and I love it."

Carleene Samuels, event producer for Unruly Fest 2019, said, "Popcaan is not only very committed to St Thomas but to bringing the best to the parish because it is a place where in 10-20 years, it will be the poster parish on Conde Nast," which is a leading travel destination website.

Samuels reasoned that Popcaan is "undoubtedly the biggest artiste in Jamaica". She said that in keeping with that title, "it is only right that he does these types of things, and we are trying to build the biggest festival by the biggest artiste".

"Not only does he have his own artistes that he is going with, but he is putting very popular local and international artistes on a world stage because one of the things he is committed to doing is bringing artistes at the height of their glory to Jamaica. We started off strong with last year's line-up, and it is called 'Popcaan and friends', so it is those artistes that he chills with and knows personally and artistically."
