Western Bureau:

These days, when the name Salt Spring, St James, comes up in a conversation, the first thing that comes to mind is music.

This is because of the exploits of the likes of Squash, Daddy1 and the other members of the red-hot 6ixx outfit, who hail from that community.

Like the 6ixx, whose members have used music to transform their lives, Errol Taylor Jr, who hails from the same community, recently resigned his Southwest Airline job in Miami, Florida, and is back home in Jamaica pursuing his passion, his unquenchable love for music.

“I fell in love with music as a little boy …. My father was always playing music in the house and sometimes we would sing along and other times we would perform for each other,” said Taylor, who is currently recording under the moniker, 3rdEyeThaMissionary.

After graduating from Anchovy High School, where his mother, Suzette Virgo, is a physical education teacher, Taylor migrated to the United States to join his dad.

“At first I wanted to become a pilot and I also toyed with the idea of becoming a teacher, but music was always in the back of my mind,” said 3rdEyeThaMissionary, who regularly composes, records and releases songs on the Internet.

He said that he decided to call time on his airline job last August and turned his attention to music full-time.

“I quit my job and returned to Jamaica because I felt music calling me,” said 3rdEyeThaMissionary, who is a lover of all genres of music, but has a soft spot for reggae, dancehall, ska, rocksteady, and hip hop. “I see myself as a protagonist in music and one day I want to write my name at the forefront of Jamaica’s culture with a permanent marker.”

Having recently dropped his first commercial recording, a song titled, Peace Love and Togetherness, Taylor, who sees Bob Marley as his musical icon, and has spent a lot of time studying the path he took to success, feels inspired and is now bubbling with confidence.

“I have answered my calling and I feel inspired to find my peace in music. I am confident and I am ready and hope the world is ready for 3rdEyeThaMissionary.”
