Two queens, one throne - Minister Marion, Spice for Groovin’ in the Park
Dancehall Queen Spice is expected to share stage with Minister Marion Hall, formerly Lady Saw, at Groovin' in the Park on June 25 at the Roy Wilkins Park in Queens, New York.
The duo will not be performing together, but this will be first time in years that both will performing at the same event, on the same stage. The former besties have been beefing verbally for a few years.
In making the announcement of Spice's last-minute addition to the line-up, Chris Roberts, Groovin' CEO, noted that patrons will be thrilled to witness "two queens on one throne".
"After an absence of three years due to COVID, our team wanted to return by offering the best level of entertainment that is available, and we knew that serving up two queens on one throne -- Spice and Lady Saw [now known as] Marion Hall -- would push the needle off the charts," Roberts explained.
"Having the current and the former queens of dancehall performing in the borough of Queens, will give music fans an electrifying royal windfall to kick off a steamy summer," he added.
Minister Hall, who was widely known for her raunchy stage appearances as Lady Saw, got baptised in 2015 and has since been ministering in the gospel arena. After shunning secular shows for years, Minister Hall announced earlier this year that she will be stepping into those spaces to perform and win souls for Christ.
An excited Spice confirmed the booking through a promotional video for the event.
"This is not a small addition. This is a big, big addition, because yuh know say one plus one equal two. You can do the maths. Yuh know say me the queen a go perform early," she said.
In addition to Spice and Minister Hall, Groovin' In The Park will also feature R&B crooner Charlie Wilson, as well as dancehall artistes Cham and Frisco Kid, and reggae crooners Tarrus Riley and Wayne Wonder.
