United States-based dancehall artiste Summa is positioning herself to become the next big female star in the business.

The up-and-coming entertainer said that while there are females doing music, only a few are doing authentic dancehall music. She has vowed to become a musical force in that space.

"People a sing but what are they singing? Mi see people a try tap over in other people's culture. At some point in time, Spice is gonna leave dancehall, and it doesn't take a blind person to see that Spice is on her way out. When she leaves it is a very few, if any, who are going to be able to fill the gap," Summa reasoned.

Spice is the undisputed queen of dancehall.

Summa, a Kingston-born entertainer has been experiencing a steady growth in her career. She recently released a single, Boom, and is convinced that it has the potential to become a dancehall anthem.

"The target is die-hearted dancehall fans. There is no deep message in the song really, but it is a song with a lot of vibes and will get the listeners active. Mi nah go tell you say mi a try bring across a particular message, but it's just to dance and have a good time," Summa said.

"There is enough trouble already in the world, so there has to be something to be happy about, and that is what the song is about, and the streets love it. Real dancehall supporters want songs that them can get wild and active to," she added.

Summa, whose given name is Trudy-Ann Wint, told THE STAR that she has always had a passion for music, but said she did not take it seriously until 2019.

"Mi always a write songs, poems and so on. While in high school, I use to attend parties and promote them as well, but it was 2019 when I started deejaying professionally. But COVID-19 came and I took a break as the studios were closed," she said.

Summa said she returned to the studios and that was when she met Daniel Foster, of Nah Change Entertainment, who is now her manager.

"We got a feature with Valiant and although it didn't go the way we had hoped, it gave me and the Nah Change label highlight so people start know about me and that's how I got a spot in the dancehall," she said.
