Reggae singer Gramps Morgan of reggae group Morgan Heritage is apologetic to their fans for their delayed public response following the death of his brother Peetah in February.

"I would like to say on behalf of the Morgan Heritage family, thank you to everyone that ever reached out. It has been truly overwhelming. I know now that people were listening. If we didn't know before, we know the impact that Morgan Heritage has had on the world through music; and as a family, we always prayed that we would inspire families to stay together and do positive things. I'd also like to apologise on behalf of the Morgan Heritage family for taking so long to address the public since the funeral, not that we owe anyone any explanation, but our musical family is part of our family," he told THE WEEKEND STAR.

"We've said in the past that we spend more time with our musical [family] than we spend time with our personal families. To all of the musicians that played music with Morgan Heritage, the engineers, the songwriters, the producers. stage techs, promoters, publicists, thank you for everything throughout the years. We will continue this mission, and my brother's name will live forever," he added.

In honouring Peetah, Gramps said he hoped persons would remember him as one of the greatest reggae singers of all time.

"Things that Peter could do vocally I have not heard very much in the genre. The way he could sing seven nights a week on tour, I've never seen no artiste do in my lifetime. Many times, on tour, artistes would need to take a break. There are not many singers that can do that," he said.

"We will not see another Peetah Morgan for another 50 years. I can confidently say that because I've been in so many different genres and worked in so many different genres, even as a solo artiste, and haven't seen anyone like my brother Peetah," he reasoned.

Gramps did not divulge the cause of Peetah's death, saying that would be up to his widow to decide if she chooses to make it public. He said that the four surviving members of Morgan Heritage will make sure that Peetah's legacy will never die.

"The bond that me and my brother have is like no other; it's indescribable. There's so many stories to tell as young boys when we just started touring. We would have to share the same room. Even when the band grew, we still would stay in each other's room just talking for hours and hours, laughing, telling jokes, talking about what's next in our career, and how we can be better. Our bond will be unbreakable, even though he is in another world," he said.
