During his performance at Sunday's Reggae Sumfest Family Fun Day in Montego Bay, St James, dancehall artiste Laa Lee invited several youngsters to join him on the stage to test their skills, and one of them, 12-year-old Dwight 'DJ Brainz' Francis, gave an impressive performance.

DJ Brainz was not only able to sing Laa Lee's songs flawlessly with his own unique flair, but he was also able the match all the signature dance moves the energetic recording artiste has been using to achieve a major buzz in Jamaica, the wider Caribbean and parts of North America.

"DJ Brainz you a star, and mi ago mek sure you get the exposure you need fe buss," Laa Lee told the Catherine Hall native as the crowd cheered him on. Laa Lee, who seemed genuinely interested in helping DJ Brainz, quizzed him on stage about his school and his education, and seemed quite pleased when he was told that he had done well in his Primary Exit Profile examinations and would be moving on from Howard Cooke Primary School to Herbert Morrison Technical High School in September.

"I want you to pay attention to your education because dunce nah go no weh," urged Laa Lee. "Don't follow the deejay dem wha a promote the dunce thing because as mi seh, dunce nah go no weh."

In an interview with THE STAR after his stellar display on stage, DJ Brainz said that while he is eyeing a career in music, he has no intention of neglecting his education and is looking forward to doing as well as he did at the primary school level when he gets into high school.

"I am not going to come off my education. I am still going to focus on doing my work in education and getting my subjects," said the youngster. DJ Brainz's interest in music came to the fore during the onset of the pandemic, when he developed his passion for writing songs as there was basically nothing more to do. He said that he wants to become a big name in music in the future.

"My plan is to become a singer/songwriter and, hopefully, when I continue writing songs, I will end up becoming that one person that everybody knows in music," he said, expressing delight at being given the chance by Laa Lee to expose his talent.

Music appears to be in DJ Brainz's DNA, as his father, Dwight Francis Sr, performs under the moniker, Deejay Dwight. However, DJ Brainz's musical hero is Beenie Man, who also came to prominence as a child star.

"I am a Beenie Man fan, Beenie Man a mi deejay, zim zimma," said DJ Brainz, before free-styling the song, Zim Zimma, doing justice to the lyrics with his youthful but clear voice.
