D’Angel confident of call-up for ‘Freedom Street’
Dancehall songstress D'Angel is expressing confidence that she will be on the line-up for Vybz Kartel's Freedom Street concert.
She said her 2009 Vybz Kartel featured hit single, Baby Father, prevented several women from giving "jackets" in Jamaica," and for the 15 years she has been 'loyal' to him, "Kartel affi call mi up".
"A mean, come on. Years now I've been singing that song while you're away and now you're here, suh a just di right thing to do. Mi and Kartel are good, suh why mi wouldn't deh pon it? A mi and him [Kartel] mek di woman dem tap gi jacket and know seh dem affi understand demself and gi di pickney dem to di right daddy," the Talk About artiste told THE STAR.
"[ Baby Father] is a muss play song in dancehall for over the past decades. Suh Kartel affi call mi up fi come sing dis one wid him. I just can't see it no other way," D'Angel added.
When asked if she had made an effort in requesting booking for the show, she shared that years ago when Vybz Kartel pledged strong allegiance to the popular 'Alliance Crew' was the same time they collaborated. She felt it showed his level of boldness and independence in making his own decisions. Therefore, she implored him to draw on that same initiative now to make the "right decision".
"Kartel is gonna do the right thing [because] Kartel a him own man and him nuh tek programme. I've never been in that position before where mi affi reach out to nuhbaddy. Mi ano stranger,- is like mi and Kartel a family. Mi and Kartel been good and it's only fitting suh Kartel ago just duh di right ting. Him can't deny mi dah show yah," she said.
The diva also revealed that she was also a stylist for Vybz Kartel, often times choosing his "straight jeans and fitted" from her Angel's Boutique clothing store and "dressing him" for his shows.
However, with 'Freedom Street' promising to be one for the history books,' D'Angel said being a part of this moment would mean a continuation of her legacy as a "history maker" and also prove her "loyalty as a friend" to di 'Worl Boss'.
"It's fitting for me to do this type of event and just continue on my historic path. It's just something major that I'd really love to be a part of and mi. All Stevie Wonder can see seh a mi and Kartel a run di grung," D'Angel opined.
She further promised to deliver a "fresh, new and creative" performance - one that will be tailored to the event as a special tribute to Vybz Kartel, her way of saying 'welcome home'.
To the fans, D'Angel said these are the types of shows at which artistes have to make an impact

"You'll see all di different moods of Angel - mi ago duh supm weh even tailored fi di show. Suh when mi touch di stage, a dust," said the Stronger artiste.
