Women flock Shenseea’s birthday festival
Business mogul Romeich Major has described as remarkable the overwhelming turnout of women for Shenseea's birthday festival on Friday night. Major, who was the promoter for the event, held at held at Grizzly's Plantation Cove in St Ann, estimated that 90 per cent of the roughly 4,000 people in the audience were women.
"This is the first party I've ever been to where I saw more than 3,400 women and only about 600 men," Major told THE STAR. "But that's expected because Shenseea represents for the ladies, so some men might not vibe with her. But the best part is, we all had fun - she had fun, and her fans had a blast. It's the first time we're doing this, so look out for it again next year."
Major said the execution of the festival for the dancehall superstar was a success. The renowned entrepreneur credited the love and support, from especially the artiste's "female fans", for the great turnout the show received.
"Considering that we've been dealing with two weeks of bad weather and people being cautious about coming out, we still had over 4,000 attendees tonight. That's a great look, good vibes all around, so yes, it was definitely a success," Romeich told THE STAR.
Friday night's event featured performances from Shenseea, with special guest appearances by Ding Dong, Stalk Ashley, and Chronic Law. Among the other notable attendees were social media influencers Chiney K, Tanania, and Quite Perry, as well as Sunshine Snacks General Manager Kathryn Inniss, who came to support the company's newly signed ambassador, Shenseea.
Billed as an intimate celebration with her loyal fans, the event attracted supporters from all over the world. While many enjoyed the show, some attendees expressed their desire for more from Shenseea's performance.
"The event was good, but we expected more of Shenseea on stage," shared fan Kathy Black. "The musical selections were good, but we thought there would be more performers. Still, it was good overall, and we'll be back next year."
Jordan Nathan, a fan from London vacationing in Jamaica, shared similar sentiments: "It wasn't the best, but it was alright. We wanted more from Shenseea and for her to come out earlier."
Meanwhile, a group of patrons leaving the event described it as "marvelous but low-key", though they commented that some songs were played too often. One male fan echoed Romeich's excitement about the high number of female attendees, saying, "A bay gyal, gyal fi days...mi eye dem full, mi good," with a smile. "Overall, I give the event 100 per cent - the production was top-notch."
Shenseea took the stage at 3:15 a.m., much to the relief of her eager fans. She performed a 30-minute set, including hit songs like Dolly, Good Comfort, and an a cappella version of her track Hit and Run with Masicka. She closed out her performance with Lighter, her collaboration with Tarrus Riley.
Ding Dong and the other guest artistes added diversity to the show's line-up, giving fans a taste of the variety the 'Shen Yengz' have come to love.
