LA Lewis plans $5-million Sting giveaway
Recording artiste and 'Maroon Emperor' LA Lewis plans to "breathe back life" into the 2024 staging of Sting with a "high energy" performance and a $5-million giveaway to the "poor people" at the event.
"I am gonna be working Sting because mi see dem [promoters of Vybz Kartel's Freedom Street concert] put dem date near Sting like dem waah flop Sting and Sting is a show fi poor people. Me personally ago put up $5 million because mi ago show Kartel seh mi ago draw more crowd ova Sting dan wah him ago draw a fi him show. If dat nuh happen, mi run weh from Jamaica [and] gi Kartel $30 million," a hyped up Lewis told THE STAR.
"I am gonna give back to Sting what they give to nuff artistes. Suh, starting at 9 p.m., every hour pon di hour, mi a gi weh at least two or three hundred thousand [dollar] to di poor people dem [randomly] until the $5 million done," he added.
The Dem Fraid a Mi artiste, who was recently confirmed for Sting, said his latest single, Feel Nice "is trending more than Kartel songs" and will be one of the major singles he'll use to rile up a "high energy" for the Sting patrons.
Sting's former promoter, Isaiah Laing, who is still co-piloting the event with his son Tahheer, said Lewis' songs "a guh hawd".
"Mi naah bring him fi come clash wid nobody, him a come ova deh come work and duh him thing because him waah help Sting," said Laing, while adding that, the 'Seven Boss' will also help in promoting the event. Lewis said he reached out to Laing to assist with promoting and being a part of the show. He questioned the rationale of the promoters of Freedom Street for putting the event so close to Sting, one of best shows on the planet.
"Suh, LA now. as the poor people dem defender, I am looking to help save Sting because it's a show weh a put food pon many ghetto youths' table and buss a whole heap a young artiste, including Kartel," shared Lewis, adding that he thought the deejay was "ungrateful" for choosing a December 31 date for his event. Sting came under heavy criticism recently, with several persons calling for it to be cancelled, following Kartel's announcement of his show's date. However, Tahheer said, despite the circumstances, Sting will go on.
Lewis added that he felt "betrayed" by Kartel's recent appearance at the People's National Party's conference with Accompong Maroon leader, Chief Richard Currie. He said that, as one of the deejay's biggest supporters, he was hurt that he was hanging out with Currie.
"Kartel betray mi because mi and Currie nuh good and Kartel know dat. A fuss mi see all big man like mi bawl eye wata, because dat [betrayal] hot. Kartel gone pon stage gone all a hug up Currie, but I thought it was a mistake. But weh Kartel really hurt me now [was] when mi see Kartel a hold him heart and big up Currie wid passion pon him birthday. And all now Kartel nuh even come check mi," Lewis said. However, he said he has forgiven the deejay because "everybody know di 'Emperor' love and rate Kartel"..
