After facing intense backlash from both the police and sections of the public for his controversial track No Cap, dancehall deejay Eddy G Bomba is urging everyone not to judge his entire career based on one song.

"My catalogue is far bigger than that!" he boldly told THE WEEKEND STAR in an exclusive interview.

"Mi is a youth weh sing fi motivate people weh nuh have it. It maybe sound a way, but mi sing fi bash it inna yuh face seh [it's time] fi get up. Mi try fi give yuh a feeling fi show yuh seh yu fi a live life, yuh fi rich and have tings too. Mi try motivate people fi guh mek money and [mek dem know] seh nutten nuh come easy," said Eddy G Bomba.

Head of the St James Police Superintendent, Eron Samuels, has declared that lawmen will not give permits for events on which the artiste is on the line-up. A policeman died after he was mowed down by a motorist who was signalled to stop - a hypothetical scenario Eddy G Bomba described in No Cap. The artiste has been faced with several show cancellations due to the police's action, which Eddy G Bomba said he found "unnecessary".

"Mi feel a way bout dat. Mi feel like dem just a look smaddy fi blame...betta dem tell mi seh nuh sing dat song [because] mi neva seh 'Mi lick dung police a grung' mi seh 'Mi wi dweet'. It's not like a case like mi a try lick dem dung - is jus dat dem a run out inna di road and mi a tell dem seh if yuh run out inna smaddy vehicle, yuh wi get lick dung obviously," Eddy G Bomba said. He added that "most police show mi nuff love and more excited about di song dan all regular people". He is adamant that he sings about things he sees.

"And if yuh listen di whole a mi music dem, [you'd realise] mi nuh sing bout murder, and if yuh check, mi nuh have no police record and dem [the police] nuh have no evidence of me doing anything bad," he added. Eddy G Bomba said he has moved pass No Cap "a good likkle while now".

"It come een like mi move on from supmn and dem just a try bring mi back there. Inna di time when dat song guh viral, mi neva did even a focus [on] it. Mi busy a mek new music [and] it just go viral because people like weh dem like and mi nuh have no control ova dat. But mi just neva know it wudda [have dat impact]; people sing crazy lyrics every day. But mi neva seh mi lick dung police, a just people tek it outta context," he said. He reasoned that most of those persons dwelling on No Cap haven't listened to his other songs, and are simply following the crowd. The artiste said he has no plans of dimming his lights, but instead aims to solidify his space within dancehall.

"The energy and love weh mi get from people, mi see miself [becoming] a column ina di business by di time mi fi pass on. The support weh mi get, a dah motivation deh it gimmie fi push through - the same motivation mi give people, dem motivate mi back. The entertainment weh mi bring, give di people dem a chill suh a just straight music," he said.

The artiste is currently looking forward towards his Canada tour in November, along with other local shows with "surprise projects" and new music. He is also set to release music videos for singles from his latest album, Jumanji.
