Dancehall explosion - Baby Cham, Beenie Man, and Bounty Killer set OVO Arena on fire
Dancehall fans were treated to a monumental performance at OVO Arena Wembley in England last Sunday, as three of the genre's biggest legends -- Baby Cham, Beenie Man, and Bounty Killer -- joined forces for a concert that Cham said will go down in history as a "great moment for dancehall".
"This was not only about Baby Cham, it was a collective effort between myself, Beenie Man and Bounty Killer, proving that, when we work together, dancehall is a force to be reckon with in the world," said the Ghetto Story singer.
The live performance had fans in a frenzy, both at the event and online, as dancehall's one-time rivals -- Beenie Man and Bounty Killer -- shared the stage like never before. A video shared by Bounty Killer on Instagram shows the two surrounded by a bouncing, chanting crowd, spitting lyrics from their iconic '90s catalogues.
Bounty Killer wrapped up the show with a mix of his old-school hits and current chart-toppers, leaving the crowd calling for more.
Cham, who opened the show, couldn't have been prouder of the spectacle.
"I've always been different from day one, it's just that a concert of this magnitude received a lot more attention. The level of the production (the lighting, the screens, the dancers, the choreography, etc.), that's something we have been trying to implement in my live shows for the past five years, and now I would say we have it on a level that can stand up to the best in the world," a proud Cham declared.
In addition to the magic that was created on stage, the artistes' set, which included a special tribute to iconic Jamaicans such as Miss Lou, Usain Bolt and Bob Marley, received a warm reception from the crowd, in which Usain was in attendance.
"My set was something for everyone, the ladies, di man dem, but especially the ladies. The images which were shown, I consider them Jamaican heroes and heroine, as well as living legends. I tried to pay homage to all the people who I grew up seeing and who helped to put Jamaica out there for everyone to see, and it was also a joy to highlight and give Usain Bolt his flowers while he was present in the arena," shared the Slow Motion artiste.
The collaboration between these legendary artisets created an atmosphere that brought back nostalgic memories for fans, leaving a lasting impact on the crowd. Cham shared that fans were intrigued by the concert with the dancehall trio because the movie-like atmosphere created a sense of nostalgia that the masses have been yearning for.
"It will have a tremendous and lasting impact, as they have not seen artistes of that calibre sharing the same stage, exchanging energies and delivering hits and classics of that magnitude, in a long time," Cham said.
He promised to drop a "fresh, new" single in two weeks, in which he plans to showcase a different side of the artiste's vocal abilities.
