Bashy grieves for ‘star’ daughter Alexandrianna
Dancehall artiste Chronic Law's manager, Alexandre 'Bashy' Jones, said the tragic loss of his four-year old daughter, Alexandrianna Jones, has taken a mental and emotional toll on him.
"A me grow mi baby... a me have her right through. Suh me, she and her sister have dah likkle special bond deh. To how di ting affect me mentally, mi affi move from which part mi used to live. Mi cyaah stay inna di house because it start a play wid mi brain - it have mi a way," Bashy told THE WEEKEND STAR.
"Mi affi literally deh round people right through because this is not like a kid weh mi just send money guh give har madda - a mi pickney weh live wid mi. Mi a pack out and tek up two pieces a har clothes a while ago and mi blood run cold," he said.
Alexandrianna, who reportedly suffered a brain tumour, was admitted at the Bustamante Hospital for Children and was scheduled for surgery to remove it. The surgery was done on December 17, 2024. However, on January 1, Jones said he received the tragic news from the hospital that his daughter had passed away the previous day from complications, which the doctor allegedly stated caused her to be "brain dead".
Jones had an independent autopsy done, noting the uncertainties which surrounded her medical history and death. He declared that based on the report, Alexandrianna died from "blood clots to her brain" and sections of her body which he said the pathologist claimed could've been corrected with blood thinners. This has led to him accusing the doctors of negligence. The hospital issued a release, stating that it noted the allegations, and had launched an internal investigation to review the circumstances surrounding the case. The hospital said it had already made contact with the family involved, offering guidance on the matter.
Jones had planned to celebrate his birthday with his two daughters at Disney World on January 30 - a birth date he also shares with his six-year old daughter. Now he's unsure of how he will face the day. He said that Alexandrianna dreamed of being a police officer, and her nickname - 'Star' - was a reflection of how polite, affectionate and outspoken she was. A candlelight vigil is set to take place at her former school, Ascostars Academy in Portmore, St Catherine, on Wednesday. Bashy said he broke down in tears seeing his older daughter playing by herself and crying that she misses her sister.
"It jus sad but mi affi keep di memories dem and beg Fadda God guide mi inna di path mi need fi guh because di people dem nearly put mi inna piece a darkness di adda day, and mi jus start guh church instead and beg Fadda God fi gimmie di strength," he said, adding that he is currently on a 21-day fast.
"From dem tell mi seh mi daughter dead, mi nuh eat back meat. Mi deh pon a Daniel fasting and mi guh pon mi knees and pray every night to God fi reveal certain things to mi and mi just see dem a happen," Bashy shared. Prescribed pills have somewhat alleviated his sleepless nights.
"But there's no word in this world fi describe di pain mi feel because a mi blood dat, dat a mi seed and fi smaddy tek yuh seed from yuh, dat rough," he shared, while stressing that he's not easing up until justice is served. Bashy credits his strong support system, including church community for keeping him mentally stable. He also expressed a deep sense of gratitude to members of the music fraternity such as his childhood friend and 'brother', Chronic Law, Popcaan, Valiant, Dancing Rebel, and Aidonia who tragically lost his nine-year-old son in 2022 to cancer.
Jones is currently in the process of registering the Alexandrianna Jones Foundation, with the aim to give back to the homeless, less fortunate and disabled community "as an act of kindness under her name".
